Shapedroops Report

October 30th, 2017 by erixavero

Heavily inspired by Hatfall, game by Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw.
A simple game about recognizing shapes, quick-thinking, and time-wasting action. Targeted mainly towards children kindergarten to elementary school age.
Most compatible on PC.

Game objective: Collect the shape as stated by the text shown at the start of each round based on the shape of the shadow

Movement controls:

  • Keyboard left/right arrow keys and A/D keys
  • On-screen left/right arrow for touch screen users
  • Tap speaker button in the screen corner or press M on keyboard to mute sound

Known issue(s):

  • Mobile users may experience low frame rate and/or lost audio
  • May be incompatible for all browsers
  • Font style used may not be supported by certain browsers resulting in words slightly misplaced

References:

  • Character sprite: Zero Punctuation – Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw
  • Menu music: Persona 4 OST
  • Game music: Bad Bully – Satoru Kousaki
  • Sound effects
    • Score: Cyanide and Happiness

Construct 2: Project Hatfool Update

October 28th, 2017 by erixavero

The game should be simple, an empty brightly-lit room with character and objects in contrast with background.

Basic geometric shapes: square, circle, triangle, star made to periodically fall.

Make random number generators to randomly spawn the goal and distraction object on random position across the screen. The problem would be the shapes spawned in the same spot and overlap each other and the chance of goal and distraction randomizers come out the same value. Also, a proper title should be given anytime soon. A game about shapes dropping randomly… Shapedroops (did I misspell it somehow?) and so it was decided to let the extra 0 stay to make the title less of an uninspired mess.

Multimedia & HCI with Construct 2

October 25th, 2017 by erixavero

Task: Make a simple educative game targeted towards children around the age of kindergarten to elementary school

Project: Hatfool

After some minor issues regarding project grouping and brainstorming on what to make for around two weeks, I decided to work on the project alone for absolute freedom in creativity while constantly collecting feedback.

The project is heavily inspired by Hatfall, a game by Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw from the game assets to the gameplay.
